What Worship Says

I have been really moved by a song and a Scripture today, so I thought I would share them.

The song that I can’t stop singing today is called The Stand written by Joel Houston. I love this song because of the awe it inspires about God. From the very first line it creates this by speaking of the Creation, “You stood before creation/ Eternity in your hand/ You spoke the earth into motion/ my soul now to stand”. This song makes me want to fall on my knees and worship. But even beyond that, it is a call for us to stand up for Christ. The chorus goes, “So I’ll stand with arms high and heart abandoned/In awe of the one who gave it all/ I’ll stand my soul Lord to you surrendered/ All I am is Your’s”. That last line is what really says the point to me, all I am is Your’s. That’s the way we should live and behave, especially in worship. We must give ourselves completely over to God since we are His!

The Scripture that came to mind is from one of those less frequently used books at the end of the Old Testament. “I have heard all about you Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works” (Habakkuk 3:2 NLT). This is my basic feeling today. I have just been in awe of this world God has created for you and I to live in. It is truly a blessing, and in the spirit of the coming holiday, I am especially thankful. I took this picture this morning and was just amazed at the beautiful picture God gave me this morning.

I know it may not seem like much, but it’s our gift from God. But this Scripture also speaks to how we should behave in our lives and in worship. I believe that worship is the only appropriate response when the glory of God is revealed to us, and when we worship we should be seeking His glory as well.

And that’s what worship says. It’s “You are inspiring. You are magnificent. You are my God and You even love me.” So let’s find some time and just thank God for all He’s given us today. Spend some time in worship. It doesn’t have to be singing, it could be prayer or reading your Bible. As long as you are doing thing for the glory of God, that is worship. It’s saying, “You are above everything!”
